Shifted
04:05
|
|||
something always shifted in the morning
heat hung heavy in the sky
I ask you for time
I find you in the morning
shadows pulled to the water
eyes closed together
feet touch in the water
I shed skin in the water
I feel warm and loved and far away
we tell stories for each other
a bird like silence circles us
the ripples form a bubble
the sun just above us enough
that sweat runs off my forehead and into my mouth
shadows pulled to our bodies and leaving me out there
you don't see me
when there are so many other people
never closing their eyes
always
something always shifted in the morning

Jamie and Judy
03:33
|
|||
words passed back and forth
I catch one
I laugh because you laugh
and throw it back
he tells the story every time
Jamie who I never met
and it's funny how I come to care
at fever pitch
this is just coffee
Judy won't know
words passed back and forth
I catch one
I laugh because you laugh
and throw it back
and who is that
standing in the corner reading
who is that next to her pointing forward
hands in her lap
voices bubble under me
only Jamie to hold onto
oh Jamie
somebody is clapping
and I lean in closer
heart still pounding from the pressure and the coffee
drumming on the table
door swings open letting voices out like steam
look up from the corner and smile
do they know about Jamie
do they know about Jamie
you take a phone call
but where is he

When I Drive
03:37
|
|||
when I drive I start at one side of the world
intending to make it all the way around
I travel in the dark through fields of earth turned over
I don't stop to eat or drink
drive into a grey green sunrise
a pancake world pressed into a ball
hold my breath and set the table
spin three times and hope it's more than practice
almost feel you lean against me
skin cools with a brush of air
I worry i'll be alone forever
then you appear one day across the table
a basket of oranges between us
the writing scrawled on the wall around your head
arms above my head
you love me lonely
I love a gray sky
I wish for more where there is nothing
when I drive I start at one side of the world
kick up dirt sneakers fading
might destroy this place too
cover it with earth and make it flat so I can see
into the horizon

My Vision
03:58
|
|||
in my vision, porcelain
snow iced over
every step a clean break
in my vision
our shapes pulled together by shimmering space
frozen
we talk in crystals
clear and sparse
chilled
i watch you too close
turn on the faucet
bones thawing
snow blurring into water
dissolve into a cloud of sweetness
melting into sheets
ice into water
too sweet
sweetness
