when I drive I start at one side of the world
intending to make it all the way around
I travel in the dark through fields of earth turned over
I don't stop to eat or drink
drive into a grey green sunrise
a pancake world pressed into a ball
hold my breath and set the table
spin three times and hope it's more than practice
almost feel you lean against me
skin cools with a brush of air
I worry i'll be alone forever
then you appear one day across the table
a basket of oranges between us
the writing scrawled on the wall around your head
arms above my head
you love me lonely
I love a gray sky
I wish for more where there is nothing
when I drive I start at one side of the world
kick up dirt sneakers fading
might destroy this place too
cover it with earth and make it flat so I can see
into the horizon
